15-15-14

We had a slower week this week.  We got a little more rain and we should get some more this week.  We also had a shorter transfer, so we had transfer calls Saturday.  This transfer is seven weeks instead of six.  Both Elder Phoomphuang and I are staying.  I was also called as a District Leader.

We met with Teresa this week.  Her dad was there and sat in on the lesson, he really enjoyed it.  We gave him a Book of Mormon and he asked Teresa if he could come next time we met with her.  Teresa is doing good.

We weren't able to meet with the Busby's this week, or the Auilar's.  Kristy was sick this week so we weren't able to meet with them.  We have been trying to work with Eric Pedroza again a less active in the ward.  He recently found out his parents are members, less active.  We were visiting Eric Saturday the father invited us over for dinner, so there is some improvement there.

Thanks for the love and support.

12-8-14

We had a rough week last week, but we got some rain throughout the week.

We weren't able to meet with Kristy and Umberto because they forgot to pay the phone bill and we couldn't reach them.  The bishop stopped by and told us that they are doing good so we are going to stop by this week.  The Aguilars are doing good they didn't come to church, it's going to be a long process with them I think.  We weren't able to meet with the Busbys either they weren't able to meet with us last week.  The rain kinda of slowed things down for us.  Glenn is doing good but he didn't make it to church on Sunday.  Teresa is doing good, she blessed her baby on Sunday and she asked Elder Phoomphaung and I to stand in.  Her stepfather gave the blessing.  It was a neat experience.

All the missionaries in the stake and the Spanish stake go to be security at the Christmas parade in Covina.  Basically what we did was walk along the side of the road making sure everyone stayed back.  That's it for my week,  thanks for the love and support.

Dear missionary families,

We just wanted to let you know again how much we appreciate your missionaries in our ward.  They are hard workers and always wanting to do their best.  We had them over for dinner a couple of weeks ago and wanted to send you more photos.  The last several days we have had a lot of rain which is not that common in Southern California.  On Christmas Eve the elders will join a few families from the ward for dinner and then we will go caroling to a long-term assisted living facility for those who are mostly bedridden.  Then we will go to the bishop's house to retell the Christmas story and have the children act it out.  The elders have been joining us on Christmas Eve for many years.  It is a very sweet experience.  Thank you so much for sending your son or brother to our mission and to our ward.  We love them!

12-1-14

We had a good week last week.  We had a big Thanksgiving dinner at our ward mission leader house.

I can't remember if I mentioned this but Glenn was living in east LA for awhile, but he found a room to rent in Hacienda Heights.  Now the other elders have started visiting him.  He is doing really good now.  He received the Aaronic Priesthood, so he should be helping with the sacrament soon.

We had dinner with the Aguilar family on Tuesday and shared a little lesson with them on faith. Manuel, the father, participated with the discussion but he probably still considers himself catholic.  With the Aguilar family we need to help Sister Aguilar to understand that she needs to do her part by coming to church more and trying to get more frequent with family prayer in their home.  The whole family is doing good though, it is just going to take some time with them.

We weren't able to meet with Kristy and Umberto because their week was busy with Thanksgiving and other family things.  They are still doing good.  The Busbys are doing good.  We had a really good lesson with Sister Busby.  The spirit was strong in that lesson and she was a lot more open.  So progress is being made with both of those families but once again it is going to take some time.

That is it for my week, there has been some rain.  Some strangers saw Elder Phoomphaung and I waiting at a bus stop and pulled over and gave us a ride.  They said they were raised Catholic.  We talked to them a little bit and gave them a card for a link to the new Christmas video called Share the Gift.  Thanks for the love and support.

11-18-14

We had a good week this week.  The next few months are looking good too.

Both Glenn and Teresa are doing good.  Glenn found a place in Hacienda to live, his job still has him working hard, but he still makes it to church.  We also started working with a few part member families.  The Aguilar family, Sis Aguilar is a the only member, the whole family comes every once in awhile.  She is little less active herself, but she wants her family to come.  Her husband is the most difficult, he comes to church and likes the missionaries.  But he still considers himself Catholic.

The Busby family is another family we have been working with.  Sister Busby is also less active.  Her two kids aren't members and her boyfriend she lives with isn't a member.  They don't come to church, the boyfriend is similar to Sister Aguilar's husband, he likes us but is catholic.  We started teacher her son, Nathan, the biggest problem will be getting them to come to church.

The other family we have started to work with is the Perez family.  Sister Perez is a member her husband is not.  She has been less active for a long time, but she came back to church because she feels that she needs to.  It has been rough trying to meet with them, stuff keeps coming up and they have to reschedule.  they are really excited to meet with us.  Her husband seems like he would want to get baptized, it might take some time.

On Monday Elder Sitati of the seventy came and instructed us on how to improve ourselves and our companionships.  He is an amazing me.  He also wanted to talk with a few missionaries afterwards.  President Villanueva selected a few missionaries to have some one on one time with him.  I and a few other missionaries had that opportunity.  It was definitely a blessing.

That's it for my week, thanks for all the love and support.

11-10-14

We had transfers this week.  Both Elder Phoomphuang and I are both still in Hacienda Height 2nd ward.

We weren't able to see Teresa this week, but she came to church for sacrament meeting then she went home.  She is doing good she is staying strong in the gospel.  Her baby is doing good too.  Glenn couldn't make to church on Sunday because he got off work at 8 that morning after working a 28 hour shift and said he was so tired he almost pulled on the side of the freeway coming home from work so he could sleep.

Nothing to eventful happened this week.  Things in this area slowed down for awhile. It does look like it is going to pick up again; we found a potential investiagator at the laundry mat.  Her name is Maria, the hardest part with her might be Joseph Smith.  Thanks for the love and support.

11-3-14

It was a good week for us, a little long though.

Glenn is doing good.  We talk with him when we can, he got the Aaronic priesthood on Sunday.  Everyone was excited about that.  He also bore his testimony for the first time on Sunday.  We have had a hard time meeting with Teresa this week, but she is going good.  Other than that we have been trying to pick up new investigators which is a little difficult, and the same with less actives.  No cool stories or anything exciting happened to us.

Thanks for the love and support.

Elder Peterson

10-27-14

It was a slow week for us.

Glenn is doing good, it's hard to meet with him because he is working
so much and is living outside then ward boundaries right now. He makes
it to church on Sundays so we talk with him then and sometimes he
gives a call during the week.  Teresa is doing good she could make it
to church this week. We have been trying to meet with a few less
actives during the week. We had on give us a call and wanted to meet
with us, his name is Bennie, but things kept coming up and he had to
reschedule, he did try to come to church but couldn't make it.

That's our week, thanks for the and support.

Elder Peterson

10-21-14

It was a slow week for us last week.  It was good to go to the temple today.

Glenn is doing good, we can't really meet with except on Sunday's because he is working 12+ hours a day everyday but Sunday.  He had to work on Sunday because they are short a few workers.  He has asked for Sundays off, so we only see him on Sundays.  He does give us a call occasionally to let us know how things are.
Teresa had a bit of a busy week, so we weren't able to meet with her this week.  She did make it to church on Sunday, but only for the first hour.  She is okay with it because she was at least able to take the sacrament.

So this week was pretty slow it was hard to get in people's home.  Other than having our quarterly interviews with the mission president on Monday and the temple to today not much happened.

Thanks for the love and support.

10-13-14

Last week was a slow week for us.  We have been having a hard time finding new investigators.

Teresa is doing good, her baby is doing good.  Teresa is wanting to learn more and strengthen her testimony.  We went over the gospel of Jesus Christ with her, she has a great understanding of it.  Glenn is doing good, we have a hard time meeting with him because he is working 12+ hours six days.  So the only time we get to see him is on Sunday.  Everything is going well with him.

We were able to watch the movie Meet the Mormons.  It was good documentary about six different families through out the world, about their lives and how the gospel bless them.  It does it in a non threatening way.

That's about if for a week nothing else exciting happened.  Thanks for the love and support.

We had a good week.  General Conference was great. Elder Phoomphaung English is improving so training isn't that difficult.

Teresa is doing great, we went over the Plan of Salvation with her, she shared her testimony on it with us.  The Plan of Salvation is what got her because it shows us how much God really loves us.  She had her baby over the weekend.  From what we know everything is good there.

Glenn is still facing his storm, Satan is being relentless.  He is having trouble with his job, his car and his living situation.  He is holding strong though.  He is still praying and reading his scriptures and he watched General Conference.

We usually work with a new member for about a year.  We don't go over as often as time goes on. The ward members take over after they are baptized with home and visiting teachers.  We just go over and teach them the lessons again after that we leave it mostly to the ward.  We will still go over to give them more spiritual help. The ultimate goal is to get them to the temple

That's it for my week, thanks for love and support.

9-29-14

We had s good week, it's the start of a new transfer, I am still here
training Elder Phoomphuang.

Glenn got baptized Sunday, he also confirmed him that same day, so he
didn't have to wait until the 12th. He was really nervous, but
everything went well all then missionaries that taught him came and
the missionary that found him. Some of his friends and family came so
that was really good. The spirit was strong there.

Teresa is doing good we have been going over there lessons with she
understands a lot more about the gospel. She also expressed a desire
that she wants to share the gospel with everyone.

Other than that and talking to crazy people on the street that's about
it for my week. Thanks for the love and support

It was a good week.

Glenn is doing great.  He got past his rough spot just fine.  He is excited to be baptized.  Hopefully this Sunday.  He has been staying away from coffee and cigarettes.  He is basically ready he just needs to get interviewed one last time to see if he is ready.  It will happen soon.

Teresa is doing great.  She is excited to start on her family history and get to the temple.  We showed her a tithing slip so she could start paying her tithing.  Her aunt is going to take awhile to get baptize. We don't want to push so we are kind of teaching her indirectly by teaching Teresa.

This is about if for my week. Nothing to exciting happened.
Thank you for the love and support

We had a very good week, but it was also really hot.

Teresa's baptism went great.  Her family came down from Idaho and stayed the weekend with her.  I think having her brother baptize her was better than one of us doing it or another member.  We also confirmed her the same day, so her brother could do it.  The spirit was strong there.  We are going to start teaching her aunt that lives in the same house. It might take longer with her but she expressed a desire to meet with us.  That should go well.

A non member friend of a family in our ward came to church on Sunday his name is Brandon.  He also has a desire to meet with us.  We will be going over sometime this week.

We had a hard time getting in with others.  Glenn hit a rough patch.  Don't know why or what , but he didn't come to church.  We are going to try and help him get through it.

Thanks for all your love and support.

Last week was a good week for us.

We meet with Teresa a few times this week.  She is doing well.  We finished the lessons with her, she understood all of it.  She is going to get baptized this Sunday.  She is ready and the Lord really prepared her.  Her brother is coming to baptize her.

Glenn is doing great.  The plan is for him to be baptized on the 21st.  Glenn didn't share is testimony because he felt like he should bear it at his baptism, when his friends are there.  He is doing goos with overcoming his addictions.  He just needs to keep it up.

That was really if for our week, we just keep on working.  Nothing to exciting happened to us Thanks for the love and support.

Dear Peterson family,

Elder Peterson has a brand new companion from Thailand as I'm sure you are aware.  Elder Phoomphuang is working hard on his English but you can tell they are a great team.  Elder Peterson is a diligent missionary with a ready smile. They were in our home last Sunday for dinner.  We sure do appreciate these great missionaries who serve in our area.  Thank you for raising such a great son!

This week we meet with Teresa twice, we introduced her to the Book of Mormon and we taught her the Plan of Salvation.  She had started to read the Book of Mormon.  She is excited to get baptized.  She came to church and she enjoyed it.  Her grandma sat in on the lessons but didn't participate and isn't really interested.

We also saw Glenn, he had a busy week so it was hard to meet with him.  He has been having a stressful week so he asked for a blessing and we read a few scriptures about enduring and putting your trust in the Lord.  He told us he wants to bear his testimony this Sunday, he just doesn't like to talking in front of groups.  We challenged him to do it.

That's about it for my week. Thanks for the love and support

We had a really good week last week.

So my trainee name is Elder Phoomphuang. He is from Thailand, he was in the MTC for two months learning English, and he is still learning so it makes communicating a little difficult.

Glenn is still doing good he went over and taught him and Kenny the Restoration.  Kenny remember most of it, he wants to get baptized, but he needs to wait until he gets off parole.  The missionaries will keep going over until the.  Glenn made it to church but Kenny couldn't.
We started teaching Teresa, her mom and brother are members and live in Idaho.  She wants to gets baptized.  She just came out of no where.  Her brother called us and told us about her, so we went over to her house and taught her the Restoration.

That's about it for my week.  Thanks for the love and support.

Train a new missionary

It was a good week. I am still in Hacienda Heights 2nd. Elder
Christensen got transferred. I was called to train a new missionary. I
am a little nervous about it.  They fly in on Tuesday, so I will get
my companion then.

We continue to meet with the Ortiz and getting them coming back to
church. We mostly read the Book of Mormon with them. We weren't able
to meet with Glenn this week but we were able to keep in contact with
him, it did make it to church. Glenn told us that Richard got kicked
out, he doesn't know why. But on the plus side, another guy moved in
named Kenny. I haven't met him yet, but his family was baptized and he
wants to come to church and get baptized so we are excited about that.

That's about it for my week. It was a boring week. Thanks for the love
and support.

8=11=2014

We had a pretty good week.  Transfers are next week, mostly likely I will be staying but you never know.

We were able to meet with Glenn.  He is still doing good, he is excited for baptism he is waiting to get of probation before he can.  He also made it to church on Sunday, he knows he needs to get better at coming.  He is also working on coming addictions still.  We also meet with one of his roommaties that lives in the same halfway house.  He name is Richard, he definitely needs God in his life.

We also started teaching Mary Mugabe she is an older lady. She was a
referral, she was surprised but happy to see us. I guess no one told
her that we were coming. She enjoyed meeting with us. She had some
health problems that make it difficult to meet with her.

The bishop's daughter had her farewell talk on Sunday she is going to Armenia.  So there was a lot of non members there.  I think it was a good experience for everyone.  That's about it for my week thanks for the love and support.

Last week was a pretty good week.

We were able to teach Glenn this week. We just read the Book of Mormon
with him because he hasn't been reading. He also didn't make it it to
church on Sunday. He is doing good though, we are going to keep
working win him for awhile.

We meet with the Ortiz and read the Book of Mormon with them to help
them get started again with there reading, they also came to church,
the ward is excited to see them coming back. They are doing really
good they are trying their best to be fully active again.

We had interviews with the mission president on Wednesday, it was
mostly for him to get to know us better. He is going to be a good
mission president.

Thanks for he love and support Elder Peterson

Last week we had a slower week. We were only able to get in with a few less actives.

We weren't able to see Glenn this week.  He didn't make it to church this week either.  The went to see the see the less actives the Ortiz family and Sister Berry.  They are doing good with coming to church.  We are trying to find some new people to teach.

Saturday the stake had a Pioneer Day activity.  It was a social event with a barbecue.

We also went hiking this morning.  We hiked to a very small waterfall.

We had a good week last week, is just getting hotter.

We were able to see Glenn a couple of times this week. We just read
the Book of Mormon with him, he didn't make it to church though. He
will make it this Sunday though. We also got a call from a former
investigator Name Robert Grey. He was wanting want to meet with us
again. We taught him he Restoration, he remembered most of the stuff
covered in that lesson, and he still read the Book of Mormon. He won't
come to church because of his wife. She speaks Vietnamese, and doesn't
understand English. Previous missionaries have given her reading
material in Vietnamese to help her.

That's about it for my week things are starting  to pick up. Thanks
for the love and support.

Last week was a good week.  The reason why I didn't email on Monday was we had a meeting on Monday that we weren't told about until Thursday.  The four of in the ward Elders Blair, Wymer, Christensen, and I were also asked to sing a musical number, Hymn 335 Brightly beams our Father's Mercy.  The meeting was to met President Villanueva and his family.  My zone was picked for Monday.

Everything is going good, Glenn is still progressing he came to church.  We are still having a hard time getting Jay to come to church he says that he will come ten he doesn't.  We are still working with him though.  Sunday was pretty cool some less active families came, one of them came on their own, which was pretty exciting.

We had a good week this week. I am still in Hacienda Heights 2nd ward
with Elder Christensen.

We stopped by Glenn, we read a chapter from the Book of Mormon because
he forgot to read. He didn't come to church, Erik did come. We stopped
by a few less actives also, one of them wants to get ready to go to
temple. President Villaneuave is here, I haven't met him yet, but I
will get to meet him in a couple of weeks.

The four of us in the ward had a great spiritual experience Monday
evening, it strengthened our testimonies of the Savior. Every thing is
going good over here thanks for the love and support.

Last week was kind of a crazy week, but a good week..

This week we mostly just went by less active members in the ward because our investigators kept canceling our lessons.  On the bright side a few of them came to church.  Eric is still doing good, we are trying to figure things out with him because he says that he was baptized when he was twelve in Wittier.  Glenn is doing really good, he is still trying to over come addictions. The new mission president, President Lopez Villanueva come July 1. The transition might be difficult, but I'm excited to see his way of leading the mission and to be taught by him.

The other set of Elders in our ward moved in with us because the member they were living with was tired of housing missionaries, so they are living with us temporally, so the end of the week was kind of crazy helping them move in and stuff that's about it for my week.

Thanks for the love and support

finally pictures

Dear missionary families,

My name is Melissa Rozsa from the Hacienda Heights 2nd Ward.  We have six children and my husband is currently serving as the stake president in our stake.  Three of your sons came into our ward several weeks ago to join Elder Christensen who was already serving here.  I can't tell you how very much we are enjoying your missionary sons.  You would be so proud to see them at work.  They have come with great attitudes and a desire to work very hard.  They all work well as a team and are doing a wonderful job.  They look you in the eye, shake your hand with a great smile and are always wanting and willing to do whatever it takes to increase the miracles in our ward.  They are in good companionships where there is love and respect.

On Fast Sunday it was their first Sunday all together.  They didn't have a place to go for lunch so we made a quick lunch available.  I was so impressed that as we discussed different people to go see or contact that they were all taking notes and asking questions.

They came over again this past Sunday to our regularly scheduled lunch for them.  Lunch wasn't quite ready so we passed out hymnbooks and asked them to sing while they were waiting.  One after another they sang beautiful hymns. Our kids even opened up and sang with them while we sang in the kitchen.  It was such a beautiful spirit in our home.

You would be so proud to see them at work.  They have to do a lot of walking and riding of buses.  It's so refreshing to see them walking around town.  On Sunday there was a baptism in our ward of a lovely woman from the Philippines who is now moving this week to Texas.  Her sister and possible future husband are also members of the Church.  As she came up the stairs out of the water she said, "I'm so happy!"  During the rest of the meeting she was weepy.  Her baptism was back-to-back in the middle of the Chinese ward's baptism and the Korean branch's baptism.  How nice to be busy at the stake center!

Thank you for raising such great sons and missionaries.  I have told them repeatedly that we have always told the mission president to send us his very best...so that must mean they are the best!

Have a great day,
Melissa Rozsa

Jake does have some surprises in him:)

Last week was a good week a little slow but still good.

We meet with Eric and talked to him about coming to church and also read with him from the Book of Mormon.  He couldn't make it to church this week.  Glenn was able to come to church though.

We had a mission conference on Friday.  It was President and Sister Becerra's final Mission Conference (they leave July 1) it was kind like their farewell conference.  Elder Christensen and the other set of missionaries in the ward, Elder Wymer and Blair and I sang a musical number with a piano and flute accompaniment.  We sang an arrangement of the Hymn #98 I need the every hour.  They talked about the atonement and mostly geared it toward us and necessarily about improving our missionary work.  The spirit was super strong there it was amazing.

That's about if for my week here.  Thanks for the love and support.

got sick

Well last week was kind of slow, both Elder Christensen and I got sick toward the end of the week so that did not help.

We were able to meet with Glenn, we just read the Book of Mormon with him.  He hasn't been able to come to church recently he tried to come Sunday, but he slept in and missed it.  Over all he is doing pretty good.

We also started teaching Robert Grey.  He had meet with the missionaries before, and for some reason they stopped teaching him.  but he gave a call asking us to come by.  So we will see how it will go.

That is about if for our week.  No other stories to share this week.

Thanks for the love and support.

Feels like home

Last week was a good week. It was a little slow compared to the week before, but still a good week.

We went by Jay’s and taught him about the Plan of Salvation.  His uncle listened for a little while but he had to go.  We invited Jay to come to church but he didn’t come.  We weren’t able to have a lesson with Eric but we did stop by to see how he was doing.  He couldn’t make to church.  Glenn is doing good we went by and talked to him about baptism just as a review.

There is a lot of potential in the area.  El Monte is like my new home.  I have been here most of my mission my first six months in the north part and when I was in the Temple City ward I lived in El Monte and now I am back.  I guess there is someone I need to find in El Monte.

Thanks for the love and support.

Hopefully pictures soon

Well last week was a good week.

We taught a guy named Jay.  He is in his early twenties.  We taught him about the Book of Mormon.  He said he would read it.  We also taught a kid named Eric he is about 17.  He actually dropped the missionaries about a month ago.  But we went by because he happens to be in the area.  We also had a member with us that is what got us in and we were able to teach him again.

We also gave a lesson with a guy named Glenn Gearhart.  He has a baptismal date in November because that is when he gets off parole.  We went over to give him a blessing because he has something that the doctors don’t really know what it is.  He has made a lot of changes in his life.

We also went by some less active members in the ward to see how they are doing.  So that we my week nothing much happened

Elder Peterson

So we had dinner with the Stake President.  His wife took some pictures of us and should be sending them to you.

Transfer to Hacienda Heights/El Monte

Last week went a little faster and it also cooled down.  I have also been transferred to Hacienda Heights Second ward.  It covers part of El Monte all of south El Monte and of Hacienda Heights.  I am with Elder Christensen working in El Monte and south El Monte while another set of Elders cover Hacienda Heights.  It’s kind of funny because Elder Christensen and I were in the MTC together.

All the lessons we had scheduled fell through, again.  So we spent most of the time trying to find more people to teach.  Saturday we set up a free lemonade and cookie stand in a park with the missionaries in the ward as well as some ward members.  That went really well we got some contact information.  It also let people know that we aren’t’ that weird.  I was also asked to give a talk last Sunday.  So that was my last week in Temple City.

not much luck

It was a rough week for us. It was also very hot.

We meet with Pam and she is doing well. She told us that she didn't think she was going to get baptized anytime soon so she didn't want to waste our time by having us come over, but she said she would still read the Book of Mormon. It was funny because we had decided that he would drop her because we both felt like it would be good for her. We haven't meet with the Delgados in a awhile because they keep missing the appointments we set up.

We had zone conference on Friday. That was good we learned how to plan better and a few other things. Other than that it was a long and slow week.

Thanks for the love and support

5-12-2014

Last week was a pretty good week.

We taught Pam again she is doing good. We taught her about the Word of
Wisdom and committed her to live it.  We are planning on meeting with
her this Thursday again. The Delgados are still hard to meet with but
we set something up for Wednesday.

We taught someone from Saudi Arabia he is Muslim. He only wanted to
meet with us because he wanted to learn more about Christianity. So we
taught him about the Restoration. He didn't want to learn more, and he
didn't want to pray and ask if it was true. So that was the end of
that.

We also got to help some students with a homework assignment for their
world religions class. They had to do an assignment on church and they
chose Mormonism. So we meet with them and it was a question and answer
type thing. He also shared with them the Message of the Restoration.

That was my week not much else happened. Thanks for the love and support.

It is getting hot!

Kind of a slow and really hot week.  It should be cooling down this week so that will be nice.

Pam is doing well she doesn’t know it is true or not.  So it is going slow with her.  Judy and Manuel Delgado schedule got a lot busier so it is going to be a lot harder to meet with them.  We did have an appointment with them Sunday, but that one fell through.  So that is about all that happened this week.

Next week we are hoping to contact and start teaching some referrals.

Thanks for the love and support.

I talked with President Becerra the other day.  He sends his love out to Nicole and the rest of the family.  He also is prayer for her.

We are planning on Skyping around 4 here so it will be about 5 in Utah

yelling, barking, and bashing

This week was a slow week again.  We are still trying to find people to teach.

We taught Pam once last week.  It went alright she still isn’t sure about if it is true or not.  Then the Delgados forgot about the appointment so we rescheduled for this week.  W also have a few referrals we are trying to contact.  We did contact one, but he was sick and said to come back another time. Another one is never home the other people that live there tell us to come back later, we come back when they said he still wasn’t home.  The last one was not home either then we found out from her neighbor she is out of town for awhile so we don’t know when she will be home.

We do have a few lessons set up for this week we could possible start teaching a family and the neighbor of the referral.  It is looking like a good week.

Just a normal week of people yelling at us, or trying to bash with us, and dogs barking at us.  Thanks for the love and support.

April 25, 2014

We taught Dominic about the Book of Mormon, and got him to start
reading it. We are planning on passing him off to the singles ward
because we think he would do better being in a ward with people more his age.

Pam is doing well, we taught her about the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
she understood it,but we might have to reteach her about the Restoration
because she didn't remember much about Joseph Smith. We also may have
found a way for her to get to church, because she is in a wheelchair,
and didn't have a way to get there before.

We also picked up two new investigators, Manuel and Judy Delgado. They
were former investigators, and agreed to meet with us again, we aren't
sure about there commitment, the lesson went well and they said we
could come back.  They are also friends with a less active family down
the road, so we might try and see if we can reactivate them as well.
It might be difficult because they were offended and we think that
might be something else.

I did get to see the new new video, it has really good. The whole
mission gets to go to the temple, but at different times, we go by
zones, a couple of zones will go at a time. Though it sounds like we
might not get to go quarterly because president sent a email out
saying he is doubting sending us more often because after we are done
at the temple we need to return back immediately because it is outside
the mission boundaries, but is sounds like some missionaries let the
member that took them take them sight seeing or something.

That is about it it for my week here nothing to exciting happened.
Thanks for the love and support.

New companion

Since Wednesday it has been going good. Elder Hendricks was
transferred and my new companion is Elder Rudy from Boise Idaho.

We taught Pam about the Plan of Salvation, she really liked it, she is
trying to understand the Book of Mormon, she read the chapters in
first Nephi where he quotes Isaiah, which really confused her. We let
her know that Isaiah is confusing. We also worked out that she could
go to a church that was closer to where she lived, because it is to
difficult for her to get to Arcadia where we meet. That about sums up
the rest of the week, we tried going by less actives and former
investigators, that didn't go to well. We might start teaching one
this week. We went by they were busy, but agreed to let
us come again.

The LA temple is outside of the mission, the mission covers east LA,
the temple is in West LA on the other side of Downtown LA. So a member
has to take us then we need to come back to the mission boundaries.

Thanks for the love and support.

The email finally arrived

Sorry that I forgot to tell you that Pday was moved to Wednesday, we
got to go to the temple today. It was nice to be able to go to the
temple again. We also get to go to the temple more often now, we get
to go quarterly instead of twice a year.  General conference was
really good this time especially the Saturday sessions. I liked Elder
Holland's talk, Elder Oak's talk from the priesthood session was
really good too.

Last week have had a hard time meeting with our investigators, we did
meet with Pam and taught her about the Plan of Salvation. We haven't
been able to meet with Maria, but we were able to set an appointment
for tonight with her. On Friday we went on splits with the assistants,
and they gave us some ideas on how to help our area. That day we found
a new investigator, Dominic, he was a former investigator, meaning
that he has met with missionaries before. Since then we have not been
able to meet with him again. We tried meeting with another former
investigator yesterday, but something came up and they had to
reschedule for Tuesday. So it seems that next week will be a good
week.

So it was a good week and a half, next is normal pday will be on
Monday. Thanks for the love and support.

working with less actives

Last week was a slow week, we are having a hard time meeting with our
investigators they won't set an exact return time. They just tell us
come by again next week.

We met with Maria once and helped taught her about the Book of Mormon,
and committed her to read it, we haven't meet with her since. We
haven't been able to meet with Pam either because she has been sick. S
we are going to try to meet with both of them and let them know f the
importance of meeting with us.

We had a good lesson with a less active member, his name is Dionney.
We were helping him with his Book of Mormon reading. He started where
he had left off. After he had finished it with him he had gotten more
out off it than he had before.  So he really liked that.

So that was about the week we had. Thanks for the love and support.

just a bent rim

Last week was a good week. The weather here can't decided if it wants to be hot or cold. I have also reached the point the mission seems to go faster as time goes on.

We are still meeting with Maria, she is making slow progress, but is still willing to meet with us, it just that here schedule is busy, and it is hard for her to find time to meet with us. So right now we are waiting for her to give us a call, or we might try by and see if she is home.

Pam missed an appointment but we tried by the next day and she was home. She seems receptive of what we teach she has prayed about it and says she hasn't received and answer, but she believes what we say and it makes sense to her.

Other than that we went by some less active members in the ward trying to see if we can help them feel the Spirit again and reactivate them those lessons went well. We are also working with members to help them with there missionary work.

So something  exciting thing that happened this week was on Tuesday a car that was coming out of a parking lot hit me. He wasn't going very fast so I wasn't hurt it bent my bike rim though. He just didn't see me but is saw him and knew it was unavoidable I pretty sure that God protect me. So other than that nothing else exciting happened.

Thanks for the love and support.

Jake "super" long ;) letter (Just joking)

It has been a slow week.

We started teaching Pam she seemed receptive to our message.  Maria missed here appointment that we had so we will try by again this week.  We don't really have any thing that happened. This week we have a few people we are going to try by and hopefully we will start teaching. Our area is kind of slow right now so are plan is to do a lot of finding.

Thanks for the love and support.

3-10-14

Well last week was an interesting week.

Henry missed our appointment, when I called we said that we wasn't interested in meeting with us because he didn't want to get to know new missionaries, then after that he dropped of the radar. He wouldn't return phone calls, nod he wasn't ever home. So we decided to drop him again.  So Jessica was also dropped, because we were meeting with them together.

We started teaching Maria, she met with missionaries before nod let come over and teach her again. So we taught her the Restoration, and she accepted it and even prayed about it. We are planning on see her again the Saturday.

We had the oppertunity to do some service last week. There has a fire near Glendora, so when it rained t washed a bunch of mud down so we helped some clear the mud near his house so the machines could do it. It was great because he wasn't a member, but members from that ward a lots of missionaries help clear, he appreciated it. It was great having an oppertunity t do service, chants things up a bit.

It was a long week we didn't have much going on this week, it was still a good week, we still got stuff done. I am still adjusting to using the iPads, using the gospel library app has helped studies, it we haven't really used in teaching other than showing Mormon messages or something.

Thanks for the love and support.

3-3-2014

Well last week was a good week. It ended with a good rain storm.

First of all transfers were today. I am still in the Temple City Ward. Elder Hendricks is my new companion he is from a small town near Seattle Washington. They are also adding another set of Elders in the ward. For a total of six missionaries. Two set of elders and a set of sister missionaries.

So Henry gave us a call and said that he would like to start meeting with us again. He was still reading the Book of Mormon and praying during the two months of no communication. He also has a desire to get baptized where before it was just a bible study for him. We also started to teach his girlfriend who also accepted baptism.

Henry is the only person we taught all week. We have a few potential investigators that we are going to be meeting with this week.  So it was a slower week. The rain was really good but California still needs a lot more.

Thanks for the love and support

2-24-14

Last week was a slow week but it was still a good week. Most of the appointments we set up fell through. So what we have been trying to find new investigators that will want to meet with us. The only exciting thing that happened this week, has Henry, a former investigator we dropped about two months ago, gave us a call and said he wanted to meet with us again. So we set something up and went over Sunday night. This time his girlfriend Jessica was there, and he understood the Restoration better than he did before, and Jessica understood it. The law of chastity is going might be a problem because they are living together. Law of chastity and word of wisdom are the two biggest challenges with most people I have taught. But they both committed to get baptized. So it was a good ending to a not so good week.

We are still trying to meet with Chris, he is starting to drop of the face of the planet. We are still trying to meet with David, Leo, and Pedro. To answer your question we usually wait couple weeks of trying to meet with someone before dropping them. We let them know from a note or a text to let us know when they are ready to meet with us again. They ward is helpful with fellowshipping a lot of them have a desire to come out with us, but I feel bad because we have a hard time getting appointments set up.

That's it for my week thanks for the love and support

Just Another Week

Yesterday we had zone conference and P-day got moved to Tuesday, so that is why I am emailing today. We had a good week.

Chris missed our last lesson that we had with him and he still hasn't been to church so we aren't sure about his intent right now. We have been etching Pedro, but we are planning on basing him off to the Spanish missionaries, he speakers good English, but he struggles a little and he told us it is easier for him to read in Spanish, so he both think he would do better in a Spanish ward.

Recently we have been picking up new investigators and then dropping them. Mostly because they won't commit. So we are trying to find someone who is willing to continue meeting with us. Leo canceled our appointment so we rescheduled. We are hoping that goes well. He started teaching David he was a former investigator, he told us that the only thing that was holding him back from being baptized was that he needed to marry his girlfriend that is living him. He has a crazy work schedule to trying to meet win him has been difficult.

Well that's about it for my week. Thanks for the love and support.

new ipad

So I didn't email yesterday because we had a training meeting. We
received our iPad minis so I am emailing from McDonalds on my iPad. We
are 1 of 30 missions to receive them. It's a adjustment on using these
because just about everything is on them. Our planner and area book,
they want use using the gospel library for our studies. Once we get
things figured out it will make thing a lot more effective. Other than
that is  was a normal week.

We talked with Debbie and Crystal and are an appointment to teach
other lesson. They still seem to be a little flaky, but we are hoping
that their desire will increase. Chris is still doing good. He hasn't
been to church yet which is a little irritating. He loves reading the
Bible, we aren't sure if he loves reading the Book of Mormon as much a
the Bible but we are going to check that next time we meet him.

We started teach Key, he from Vietnam, so there is kind of a language
barrier. He referred himself on Mormon.org, but it seems that he is
meeting with us because he wants to know more, he isn't really looking
for religion. So we will see how far he goes and if his interest
changes.

So the only exciting thing that happened this week was getting iPads.
Unless you think being barked at by dogs is exciting. Thanks for the
love and support.

2-3-2014

Last week was another slow week.

We haven't been able to get in contact with Debbie and Crystal, so we are going to keep trying this week then we will drop them if we can't get in contact.  We started teaching A guy named Chris, we found him riding the bus, he has meet with missionaries before, and was interested with meeting with us again. He is receptive of what we have to share. We also meet with a guy named Leo, he has meet with missionaries off and on for a few years. He also has a son-in-law who is a less active in the ward. So we will see if how interested Leo is. He likes to talk to missionaries, but doesn't really understand why we come over.

Other than that nothing to exciting happened other than it rained Sunday evening. Thanks for the love and support.

Well been a slow week. It was still a good week though.
Reuben is doing good. We found out that he doesn't live in our area. We would meet him at his office, and we were told that he lived above it. Turns out he lives in Montebello, so we passed him on to the missionaries there. He was alright with that. Eric dropped us, we aren't sure why, he texted us and told us he didn't want to meet any more and wouldn't tell us why.
We have started teaching Debbie and her daughter Crystal, we taught them the Restoration. They seem a little flaky though. We had set up a return appointment, and they weren't home. when we saw them again they said to come back later.
So that's my week. Nothing too exciting happened this week. Thanks for the love and support.

short; but at least he email:)

So yesterday because it was a holiday the library we found was closed. So that is why we are emailing today.

I didn't get transferred. I am still in the Temple City Ward

We have not been able to contact Henry so we decided to drop him, or stop teaching him. Ruben is doing good, he is trying to live the Word of Wisdom. He is always happy to see us even when we stop by unexpectedly. We were able to pick up a new investigator last week. His name is Eric. He is into art. We have taught him about the Restoration and about the Book of Mormon. He really like everything we have taught him.  Other than that it has been a pretty slow week. Nothing to exciting happened. Thanks for the love and support.

1-13-2014

Well last week was a slow but good week.

We haven't been able to get in contact with Henry this week, so we don't know what is going on with him. This is the second time that he has done this, where we have lost contact with him. So we are going to keep trying by, and calling him, and see what is going on with him.

Ruben didn't show up to church on Sunday, but other than that he is doing good. We taught him two lessons last week. He has also accepted baptism, Feb. 16. The only problem is that he found out recently he smokes, so we are going to work through that. I think he will be willing to follow the word of wisdom when we teach it to him this week.

On Thursday Brother Donaldson from the missionary department came down and talk with us about a lot of stuff. He taught us more effective and simpler way of teaching, and a more effective way to contact someone on the street. The missionary department have done studies and think that this will work better. Because in the past we have over explaining things and confusing investigators. So if he teach it simpler, they will understand it better. We will also be getting tablets soon between Feb 11-13. They will be used as a teaching tool, and to move the missionary work forward. We will also have access to Church websites and Facebook. So President Becerra has asked that defreind all family. I'm not sure why but it is what he has told us to do.

This is also the last week of the transfer. So I will find out what is happening on Saturday.

Well that's it for my week. Thanks for the love and support

Elder Peterson.

we also found a place to e-mail on monday

making ptogress

Well last week was an interesting week, but it was still a good week.
We have been meeting with Ruben and he is progressing really well, he came to church on Sunday, he only stayed for Sacrament meeting, because he isn't a social person, but he wants to slowly work on going to all the Sunday meetings. He told us that he had been outside the church deciding if he should come in, he was kind of at war with himself. He decided to come in after he had been waiting for an hour. He has also accepted to get baptized. Which is great because he started out agnostic.  It was been really cool to see Ruben change, at first he would seem depressed when we came over, but now he is excited to see us and wants to learn more.
Henry is slowly progressing, he still hasn't made it to church. He said he was going to come than he didn't because some drama happened, but he called us and wanted us to come over. He felt bad for not coming to church, and says he is going to do better and come this Sunday. We are planning on inviting him to be baptized this Sunday. I think it was a humbling experience for Henry, because he would talk like he was perfect. After what happened he realized that he wasn't there was still a hint of arrogance, but he knows that he needs to do better.
Nothing to exciting happened this week. It was kind of a slower week.
Thanks for the love and support.
